Accelerating Ultra-High-Speed Optical Data Transmission for Beyond 5G: Breakthrough in Optical Device Technology for Large-Scale Optical Networks
Jul 17, 2024
A research group led by Professor Yokoyama achieved the following results:
- Successfully formed ferroelectric (PLZT) thin film as a crystalline film on a silicon substrate
- Successfully fabricated ultra-high-speed optical modulator
- Achieved operating efficiency more than 10 times higher than existing devices
- Realized high-speed modulation operation exceeding 170 Giga-baud
Expected applications include optical network transmission technology supporting 6G and optical integrated technology for optical quantum computers.
